How to Identify Ants
Odorous house ants and pavement ants are the ants homeowners see most in Sanpete and Juab Counties, usually trailing along foundations, driveways, and into kitchens after moisture. Carpenter ants are larger and darker and nest in damp or damaged wood — seeing them indoors can point to a moisture problem worth checking.
Signs You May Have a Problem
- Visible trails along baseboards, countertops, or foundation cracks
- Small mounds of displaced soil near sidewalks or the foundation
- Sawdust-like frass near carpenter ant nesting sites (window sills, damaged wood)
Why It Matters
Most ant activity is a nuisance rather than a structural threat, but carpenter ant activity should be inspected promptly since it often signals wood that's staying wet longer than it should. Our quarterly program treats the exterior perimeter where colonies trail in from, so activity doesn't reach the kitchen in the first place.
